HISTORY & LORE
Sodalite was originally discovered in Greenland in 1806. The name reflects sodium content within the stone. Sodalite gained notoriety during a royal visit to Bancroft, Canada by Princess Margaret of England in the 1800s. The princess loved the mineral and chose it as interior decoration for the "Marlborough House". For this reason, sodalite from that Canadian area is sometimes called Princess Blue.
